iPods in a flash?

According to this AudioRevolution article, they have confirmation of Apple's plans for new budget-iPods and that the new devices will use flash storage.

Sounds good, right?
Maybe not.

The problem is that current rumors have the new iPods at 2 and 4 GB, but flash storage at those sizes is very expensive (hardly "budget"). I also doubt that Apple would bother introducing any iPod that didn't have a large storage capacity (at least 1 GB).

And why even bother switching from the hard drive technology? It's already proven itself reliable and prices are continuing drop. I don't see any real incentive for Apple to use flash storage.

For now, I'm still sticking with my iPod prediction in the Rumor Watch (you know, the one that changes colors constantly).
